Snap-a-Meme (“we,” “us,” “our”) respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our app.

1. Information We Collect

We may collect the following categories of data:

  • Account Information: Email address or social login ID (Google, Apple) used for authentication.

  • Profile Information: Your chosen username, avatar, and public profile statistics (e.g., XP, streak count).

  • User Generated Content (UGC): Memes, images, and captions you voluntarily post to the public “Community Feed.”

  • Social Interactions: Data regarding your interactions with other users, such as likes, reports, and shared content.

  • Device Information: Device identifiers (e.g., Advertising ID, IP address), app version, and operating system.

  • Usage Data: Interactions with features, error logs, and crash reports (via Firebase Crashlytics).

  • Uploaded Content (Private): Images you upload solely for generation are processed temporarily and deleted immediately after the meme is created.

  • Purchase Information: In-app purchase receipts and transaction history (processed via Apple App Store; we do not store credit card details).

  • Advertising Data: Device advertising identifiers and related ad measurement data (if you consent to tracking).

2. How We Use Your Data

  • To provide and improve meme generation features.

  • To operate the Community Feed and display public profiles.

  • To moderate content using automated AI tools and human review to ensure community safety.

  • To authenticate users, secure accounts, and restore purchases.

  • To process in-app purchases, subscriptions, and credit balances.

  • To deliver and measure advertising (if you consent).

  • To detect, prevent, and address technical issues and abuse.

  • To comply with legal obligations.

3. Public Information & The Community Feed

Please be aware that any content you post to the “Community Feed” is public.

  • Visibility: Your username, avatar, and posted memes can be viewed, liked, and shared by other users of the App.

  • Control: You can delete your posts at any time via the App. However, we cannot control how other users may have copied or shared your content prior to deletion.

4. Legal Basis for Processing (EU/UK GDPR)

We rely on the following lawful bases:

  • Performance of a contract: To provide app functionality, purchases, and community features.

  • Consent: For personalized advertising and notifications.

  • Legitimate interests: For analytics, service improvement, fraud prevention, and content moderation.

  • Legal obligations: To comply with accounting, taxation, and law enforcement requests.

5. App Tracking Transparency (ATT) & Advertising

Snap-a-Meme integrates Google Mobile Ads. In line with Apple’s ATT framework, you will see a prompt:

  • “Snap-a-Meme uses this to deliver personalized ads that support the app.”

  • If you accept, we and our ad partners may access the IDFA (device advertising ID) for personalized ads.

  • If you decline, ads will still appear but not be personalized.

  • You can change this setting anytime in your device’s Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.

6. Data Retention

  • Uploaded images (Private): Deleted immediately after processing.

  • Public Posts (Feed): Retained until you delete them or your account, unless retained for moderation/legal purposes.

  • Generated memes (Local): Stored on your device until you delete them.

  • Crash reports & logs: 90 days.

  • Analytics: Aggregated and anonymized after 24 months.

  • Purchase records: Retained 7 years for tax/legal compliance.

7. Sharing of Data

We do not sell your personal data. We may share data with:

  • Other Users: Information you voluntarily post to the public Feed.

  • Service Providers: Cloud hosting (Supabase), analytics, and crash reporting.

  • Advertising Partners: Only with your explicit consent to tracking.

  • Legal Authorities: If required by law or to protect the safety of our users.

8. International Data Transfers

We may transfer your data outside the EU/UK. When we do, we use standard contractual clauses (SCCs) or other safeguards to ensure adequate protection.

9. Your Rights (EU/UK GDPR)

You have the right to:

  • Access: Request a copy of your personal data.

  • Rectify: Correct inaccurate or incomplete data.

  • Erase: Request deletion of your data (“right to be forgotten”).

  • Restrict: Limit how your data is processed.
